Public Outreach

NYSDRA is committed to public education and outreach.  We promote the benefits and uses of dispute resolution as an effective option to assist people facing conflicts or disputes in their lives. In addition to our own efforts to increase awareness through partners, community and workplace organizations, NYSDRA is also part of a joint coalition of dispute resolution organization engaged in a statewide awareness project.

The project, currently referred to as the New York Mediation Alliance (NYMA), consist of five funding organizations and a steering committee made up of representatives from the funding organizations, Better Business Bureau, community dispute resolution centers and individual practitioners.

Vision:
Mediation is the first intervention that people in New York seek when they have a dispute.

Mission: 
Increase the visibility and awareness of the dispute resolution field in New York State.

  • Raise public awareness of mediation and other ADR processes.
  • Expand public understanding of the core values of mediation and other dispute resolution processes.
  • Enhance public knowledge of the wide variety of situations that can benefit from the use of mediation.
  • Increase public acceptance of mediation and conflict management.

Values:

  • Inclusive:  An effort that stresses the common goals of all dispute resolution practices and benefits all ADR organizations.
  • United:  An effort that promulgates a simple and singular message on behalf of the Dispute Resolution field.
