Spring 2015 30-Hour Basic Mediation Training
ABOUT THE TRAINING: The Dispute Resolution Center (DRC) invites you to attend a comprehensive 30-Hour Mediation Training that covers the basic theory and skills of mediation in a dynamic and engaging learning environment. Participants will be introduced to the theoretical grounding underlying effective conflict interventions, as well as the practical skills and techniques necessary to assist parties in conflict. Participants will learn to de-escalate negative and unproductive conflict interactions while assisting parties to engage in productive dialogue, interest-based negotiation and effective decision-making. The training includes conflict theory and styles, active listening techniques, the mediation process, the role of the mediator, ethics, the role of law and lawyers in mediation, and more. The material will be presented through lecture, demonstration, role play and practice. WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE? While the focus is on developing DRC’s volunteer mediator panel, this course is for anyone who is interested in enhancing their communication and conflict resolution skills. It is appropriate for legal and business professionals, healthcare and mental health professionals, educators and public service professionals, as well as non-profit professionals and homemakers. Students, veterans and retirees are encouraged to participate. The training is invaluable to people who want to develop their leadership skills or just want to communicate more effectively at home, at school, on the job or in the community. *Limited scholarship is occasionally available. Completing an application and proof of eligibility is required. Veterans and students are encouraged to inquire. ABOUT THE TRAINER: Roz Magidson, MPA is the Executive Director of the Dispute Resolution Center, serving Orange, Putnam, Sullivan and Ulster Counties. She has been a lead trainer since 1990 and is certified by the NYS Court System’s Community Dispute Resolution Centers Program to provide basic mediation, custody mediation, and parent child mediation. Roz has a BA in Education and Communication from the University of Michigan, and a Master of Public Administration from Marist College.
PAYMENT AND REFUND POLICY: Payment and registration must be received no later than Wednesday, June 10, 2015. Payment may be made by credit card, check, or cash. To register you must pay in full, return a completed application and receive confirmation of registration. Seats are limited and reserved on a first come basis. Early registration is highly recommended. Refund Policy: For a 100% refund you must cancel your registration in writing by Monday, June 1, 2015. For a 50% refund, cancellation in writing must be received by Monday, June 8, 2015. After June 8th, and once the training has begun, no refund is given. *DRC reserves the right to cancel the training at any time due to low enrollment or factors beyond the control of the agency. In that event, a full refund will be provided.
