One of the major initiatives NYSDRA members feel is
important to undertake is the monitoring and participation in legislative
activities relating to the field of dispute resolution (DR). To that end,
NYSDRA established a Government Affairs Committee in 1996 to coordinate various
activities relating to legislation and communication between our members,
government officials and various stakeholders in the DR community.
NYSDRA actively supports and encourages the development of government
programs and initiatives which promote the field of DR as an independent
profession, and which serve to meet the public need for meaningful and realistic
conflict management options that are provided in a reasonable and ethical
Accordingly, NYSDRA advocates for legislative endeavors and
government programs which focus primarily on the use and encouragement of ADR
processes, such as conciliation, facilitation, mediation, neutral evaluation and
arbitration that share the fundamental values of impartiality,
self-determination and confidentiality.
NYSDRA firmly believes in
education and promotion of DR process bills and not advocating for any political
candidate or political party. The information provided on this page is
