Deadline to apply for March scholarship: Friday, Feb. 6

Program Details:
Our 5-day Basic Mediation Training lays the groundwork for anyone interested in becoming a mediator, enhancing their conflict resolution skills, or working to become a volunteer mediator with our Institute. During the training we explore questions like: What is mediation and how does it compare to other forms of alternative dispute resolution? What are the core skills I need to be an effective mediator? What are the foundational values of mediation? What is my role as a mediator? What makes a successful mediation? Through group discussion, hands-on exercises, lecture, and role-play, you’ll have the chance to engage with these and other critical questions, and practice new skills with support and feedback from experienced mediators and trainers.

Our basic training isn’t your typical program: pop culture, drawing, movement, discussion and role-play are central features of our training. And because we’re in the business of developing professional mediators, we structure our program to ensure that our trainees have lots of time to practice the skills they’re learning, ask questions, and wrestle challenging concepts to the ground. We limit our trainings to 28 participants to maximize the amount of interaction our trainers can have with participants and to facilitate exchange and learning between participants.

Our lead trainer, Rebecca Price, is certified by the NYS Unified Court System’s Community Dispute Resolution Centers Program to provide Basic Mediation Training, and she’s supported by a phenomenal training team including: Brad Heckman our Chief Executive Officer, Allison Attenello our Training Director, and other experts on staff. The training is widely recognized in New York and beyond, and individuals who participate in this training are eligible to apply for ourApprenticeship Program.

Our 40-hour course runs over five days from 9am-5pm each day. The training is held at our Brooklyn Mediation Center in the Municipal Building located at 210 Joralemon Street, Suite 618 in downtown Brooklyn. We provide breakfast and lunch during the five days of training.
