NYSDRA Welcomes Elizabeth Vanasdale as Director of Operations!

Liz joined NYSDRA in October 2018 and has hit the ground running! Prior to coming to NYSDRA, Liz worked in the Governor's office conducting vetting and research risk analysis. Previously she monitored and analyzed the fiscal operations of the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance as a Budget Fellow III at the NYS Division of Budget. Liz was selected as a Public Policy Fellow through the Center for Women in Government & Civil Society to work on workforce development policies at the NYS Department of Labor. All of these experiences exposed her to the complexities at different levels of government. Prior to her governmental experience, Liz was an Executive Assistant and Public Benefits Paralegal at Empire Justice Center. As an Executive Assistant she managed all of the organization's operations and managed the Crime Victims Legal Network Project. As a Public Benefits Paralegal, Liz developed substantive knowledge of public benefits law while collaborating on impact litigation and statewide policy priorities. After graduating with her undergraduate degree, Liz served as a Tenants Rights Advocate in Baltimore, Maryland as a member of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. In this role, she advocated for clients experiencing foreclosure, eviction and uninhabitable living conditions. Liz brings her diverse experience in government and the nonprofit sector to her role as Director of Operations. She holds a Masters in Public Administration from SUNY Albany's Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy and a Bachelors in Political Science. She is thrilled to join the team and advance the field of dispute resolution!

Welcome Liz!

January 29, 2018 – Albany, NY  Lobby Day

Representatives from the Community Dispute Resolution Centers (CDRCs) and the New York State Dispute Resolution Association (NYSDRA) converged on the Capitol to meet with over 68 legislators to ask for 1.7 million in the 2018-19 State Budget to fund a Family Services Initiative to support services at all 20 CDRCs across New York State.

CRDCs serve all 62 New York State counties and annually contribute more than $2.3 million in donated time by professionally trained volunteer mediators.  These cost effective, community-based programs provides access to justice by giving people the tools to address conflict peacefully and productively.

Many thanks to the CDRC representatives who made the trip to Albany, and to the legislative members who took time out of their busy schedules to support our efforts.  Thank you!
