About the New York State Unified Court System

New York’s state court system is one of the largest, busiest court systems in the nation and across the globe, each year hearing millions of cases throughout the State’s 62 counties, including commercial disputes, personal injury claims, criminal cases, landlord-tenant disputes and family matters, among others. Every case is important to the individual parties involved. Many cases that come before the New York State Courts involve issues that may also affect the community at large. Yet for all the activity and impact of the New York State Courts, many New Yorkers are unfamiliar with our work and structure.*
