About Homer La Rue
Professor Homer C. La Rue has over 40 years of experience in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) as an arbitrator, mediator, teacher, and trainer. He is dedicated to increasing diversity and accessibility in the ADR field.
He currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Ray Corollary Initiative, ™ Inc. (RCI), a nonprofit focused on promoting diversity in the selection of arbitrators and mediators. With major support from the AAA-ICDR and JAMS Foundations, RCI advances its mission through outreach and support for organizations adopting the RCI Pledge and 30% diversity metric.
Professor La Rue is Past-President of the National Academy of Arbitrators and serves on the Board of CPR Dispute Resolution Services. He is a Distinguished Fellow and former Board member of the International Academy of Mediators and a member of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals.
In 2020, he received the D’Alemberte-Raven Award—the highest honor from the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution—and was recognized by the Peggy Browning Fund in 2015 for his work as a fair and impartial labor-management neutral. He also served as the 2017–18 Neutral-In-Residence at Cornell University’s ILR School.
He holds a JD and MA in Industrial & Labor Relations from Cornell University and a BA from Purdue University. For over 30 years, he has been a Professor of Law at Howard University School of Law, where he founded and directs the ADR Program and Certificate Program.
Professor La Rue has resolved numerous complex disputes across labor, employment, commercial, and international arenas, including Olympic-related cases. His publications include a chapter in Evolution of a Field (DRI Press, 2020) and a co-authored article, The Ray Corollary Initiative, in the Howard Law Journal (2020).
